After six years of operation, Bangkok’s Bus Rapit Transit system or BRT will soon cease its service following its failure to serve a targeted 30,000 passengers per day even after price cut down to 5 baht per trip.
Based on the Bangkok Metropolitan Authority (BMA) data, the BRT currently has around 23,000 daily passengers—contributing to a total loss of over a billion within its six years of operations.
The BMA however said that a replacement service is currently being planned before the service stopped, and eventually part of the network would be replaced with the Grey Line monorail service.
